Washington Birds
I have been to the State of Washington dozens of times for business purposes and only a couple of times for pleasure. Washington is ranked in the top 20 states for size and has 13 ecological regions and 7 ecosystems giving it a very diverse natural environment. Our focus for this photo excursion was Eagles and songbirds. I have done both in other states but was very curious what the differences might be in this beautiful state verse the others I have visited with a camera in my hand.
Washington has recorded 522 species as of November of 2021. That is slight more than half of the birds in North America, which provide some great opportunities. We spent most of our times in the forest and marine ecosystem areas. Eagles enjoy feasting on the Midshipman fish during their spawning time in the oyster beds along the rivers and coastal areas. So some of my eagle, heron and gull photos will have a strange looking fish … it is the Midshipman Fish. Their spawning season last 30-60 day ion the oyster beds along the shoreline areas. The tidal changes is what give the eagles, herons, and gulls their opportunity. When the tide goes out, it these fish do not move fast enough, they get caught in the oyster beds which creates a picnic for these three species.
The songbirds give me a few “life birds” which is always a pleasant surprise and bonus. I am especially fond of the warbler species and was blessed to capture a couple of new species. Enjoy the images for this excursion, and other excursions on my website. If you discovery that you like a particular image, custom photos are available for purchase.
