FLOATING BLIND
This photographic adventure takes place in Eastern Idaho. It is no secret that the volcanic hotspot under Yellowstone National Park has created, and continues to create, a stunning landscape that draws visitors from around the world. What is less known is the natural beauty that lies just over Yellowstone’s western border in Island Park, Idaho.
Island Park’s beautiful forests and stunning rivers sit in the largest caldera in the world. This 50-mile hollow was formed an awfully long time ago during the eruption of a super volcano. This unique landscape serves as a home for wildlife like moose, elk, deer, pronghorn, and wolves, alongside a small population of year-round residents who stay for the spectacular summers and adventure-filled winters.
And spectacular summers is truly what this photo adventure is all about. If you love wildlife, and want them to get close to you, then this is the opportunity for you. Slip on your waders/boots and slip under the cover of a small floating blind that keeps your camera comfortable above water while you walk around in the water anywhere from knee deep to chest deep (and sometimes too deep ????) carefully scanning the lake surface for waterfowl and shore birds. There were initial apprehensions, but those soon disappeared as you saw and experienced the wonder of how close the birds would come to you when you were not a threat to them. I trust that you will really enjoy this unique view and perspective of waterfowl and shore birds. I hope that you have enjoyed your visit, and I trust that you will return real soon.
