I have had a great interest and passion for photography dating back to the ‘80’s. My wife and I did this hobby together, and we shared so many exciting excursions together. We were using the latest 35mm SLR equipment, and really enjoyed nature and wildlife in all of its forms.

I can remember one of our excursions to Arizona as we were taking a little side trip to view the Grand Canyon National Park, and all of its splendor. We were traveling on a windy two lane road, and we suddenly passed right over a tarantula in the middle of our lane. I quickly pulled over, grabbed the appropriate camera gear and began photographing this large hairy spider. I laid on the highway taking dozens of slides form different angles while my brave wife was re-directing traffic around this crazy guy lying in the middle of the road.

One of the times we were in Yellowstone National Park, and we came upon two sub-adult grizzly cubs. What a spectacular moment … and we were the second ones to come upon this special scene. If you have ever been to Yellowstone National Park, you know that in a few short minutes an event like this causes a gridlock on both sides of their narrow two lane roads. It wasn’t long and the Park Rangers were trying to keep everyone safe from getting too close to the grizzly cubs (young adults) while trying to relieve the horrific traffic jam.

Our initial interest was in raptors of all kinds. We loved all the characteristics of the hawks and owls. They are so interesting and intriguing at the same time. Their wing span, their razor sharp talons, and their eye sight, which is 5x of what you and I have is truly mind boggling. Raptor eyes are so mesmerizing that they instantly capture our attention whether it is the big yellow eyes of a little screech owl, or the red eyes of a goshawk. The peregrine falcon is renowned for its speed, reaching over 200 mph during its characteristic hunting stoop (high-speed dive), making it the fastest bird in the world, as well as the fastest member of the animal kingdom. While we have seen these little feather jets in the wild, I have yet to capture one on film.
Our interest in these raptors frequently brought us to White Fish Point Bird Observatory. Every spring we enjoyed photographing these special creatures along with all of the other species that were migrating through on that specific weekend in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on the shores of Lake Superior.

We enjoyed all aspects of wildlife and nature photography, from the small little insects, flowers, animals to the majestic mountains of the west. All of them are fascinating to attempt to capture on film, so we always had our photo gear with us no matter where we traveled. We could always find beautiful mountains scenes, beautiful waterfalls, or some wild flowers alongside a slow moving stream. God has masterfully created all of this for our enjoyment and pleasure. When you examine God’s creation up close and personal, you have marvel at how wonderfully we were made.

As we rolled into the new millennium, we got distracted by the addition of grandchildren and additional hobbies. I still used a camera on occasions for some of my hobby activities and excursions, but I was only using it in hopes of creating memories of these little events along life’s journey.

Fast forward to 2019 … the world is literally taking billions of digital photos every day with an estimated five billion smart phone around the world. Our culture has been changed forever, no one leaves home without their smart phone in tow. Phones/ cameras have become as essential as our daily transportation.

I planned some mini birding/nature excursions to several prime bird migration zones/areas this spring all in an effort to re-kindle my former photography passion and interest, but with new twist for me … digital (DSLR) equipment. Submerging myself back into wildlife and nature photography was eye opening and extremely exciting with the first images that I captured. I was so surprised with the amazing and precise detail that digital cameras were able to reveal.

It is my desire to share my passion and interest of wildlife and nature through the digital images on my website. All of the images on my website are true wild animals and birds. No zoos or enclosures … just nature at its best is, free and wild. Pursuing nature and wildlife in their natural environment adds a significant challenge to the quest, making each image even more meaningful and special when captured on digital film to enjoy forever.

If this is your first time to my website, please stop back frequently as I will be adding new image on a continuous basis. Thanks for stopping by … share the link with a friend and follow me on Instagram.
